Digidesign Digi 002 FAQ

Q-I never use the 002's onboard preamps. Should I still get the analog stages modified?
A-Absolutely. Even though you're using an outboard preamp, your signal is still passing through the 002's analog sections, and you still have to use the D/A's analog stage. What's more, the preamps we've designed will compete with many high end designs.

Q-I use a master clock for the 002 through the SPDIF line. Will I notice any improvement if I get the clock modified?
A-Clocking through SPDIF is a very poor means of reclocking, but unfortunately the 002 is limited in that respect. The SPDIF clock data is carried right alongside the audio data, so modulations of clock information can result. What's more, a capacitive SPDIF cable will cause the clock signal to become mis-shapen. Both of these things can contribute to jitter. There is no substitute for a good internal clock. Our 002 clock will give you far better performance than you'll get from any external master clock.

Q-I want new A/D converters. Can you supply them for me?
A-No, we no longer provide that service. The AK5393 is very difficult to obtain unless it's ordered in large quantities. It's also very expensive, and we don't really feel like the improvement in sound quality is tangible enough to justify the added expense and trouble.
