Black Lion Audio Auteur Preamp Reviews
"Very full and yet not boomy or muddy. The top was very smooth and not a hint of harshness.... I was so impressed I was really wondering how they managed to get it to sound so full and rich for under $500!... The best way to describe the Auteur sound is 'full, rich, with a shimmery top end and [an] extended yet smooth bottom'."

"Wow, you nailed this preamp. I love how solid it sounds, with lots of size. My favorite is its 2-4k range, it's very smooth and sits in the speakers without sounding strained or pointy. There’s a very nice (not cloudy) weight in the chest area of the voice. I have not done an a/b yet, I’ve just used it with a Violet Amethyst and so far it’s a killer combo! Wow, it's very cool, great work...I think it’s sonically perfect and another amazing choice in any studio."

"The first time I used the Black Lion Auteur Mic Pre was recording Peter Asher (Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor) playing his mid-sixties Gibson J200 acoustic. The tone was incredible, with crystal clear highs, and a nice defined bottom end that wasn't muddy at all. The mid range was smooth, and we didn't need a bit of compression. I love my Auteur Mic Pre."

"This thing is KILLER!!! I currently own pre's by dbx, art and universal audio. This is the best sounding pre on drums. Kick and snare are nice and clear and this thing is fast with a big round bottom end. Thanks and i will be getting another or two soon!!!"

"I wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for getting my 002 back to me before scheduled. When it arrived I was in the hospital with my wife having our second child... I got to tell you I was a little torn: do I run home, hook it up, and hope I make it back to the hospital in time, or stay and count the hours to get it over with so I could go home? I decided to wait and we had 8lb5oz baby boy who I named 'Auteur'....................
Then my wife renamed him...!
Let me just say that for the very first time I am happy with the CD mix of a session that I have done in my studio. The only other time I have been as happy was when I had an 8 hour session using an SSL 4056G+ console and a Studer a827.... My 002 before was like dating a fat, ugly girl that you weren't really proud of, then she goes away on a short trip, and when she returns, she is all skinny, and beautiful... with new boobs!!!!! :) "
