Welcome to Black Lion Audio!
It seems like every other week we hear from someone who has used their modified 002R to track a project that turns out getting a fantastic and surprising reception. Whether it’s a demo project that ends up getting signed to a label, or simply receiving a great review in a publication, we’re pleased to hear that we’ve been able to be a part of it. If you’ve got a story or review for us, we’d love to hear it!
The Auteur preamp just turned one year old last October, and we’re happy to see how well it’s done so far. In just a short amount of time, this humble little box has managed to find its way on to several label projects, including releases from The Donnas, Rod Stewart, Steel Panther, David Bazan, and many others. It’s become a go-to preamp for drummers like Grammy-nominated Dave Karasony of The Rippingtons, and the acclaimed Grammy-winning session drummer Ricky Lawson.
We’ve got some new projects in the works, as well as a few that are available now.
Here’s a preview of some new stuff:
Black Lion Audio am/cha1 EQ is the latest addition to the Black Lion Audio arsenal!
Our new am/cha1 is a 2-channel inductor-based EQ, and is designed to rival the top names in the industry, but as usual for much, much less than the competition.
The am/cha1 EQ is just $1195 + shipping and is now available to purchase.
Black Lion Audio FM192 is a limited-availability ground-up overhaul of the Digidesign 192i/o. Originally a custom project for producer Mutt Lange, the FM192 has already found a place in one of Nashville’s finest institutions. Two of Mike Shipley's FM192's were temporarily on loan at George Massenburg’s Blackbird Studio, where they were used to track the new Alison Krauss record. Shipley has been incredibly vocal about his new 192’s, and says, "I've never heard anything like them. They have completely changed the sound of Pro Tools for me. We put them up against many high-end converters and they won every time." You can hear them for yourself on upcoming releases from Maroon 5 and Alison Krauss.
This mod is now available, so call us for more info!
Black Lion Audio Digidesign 96i/o modification is based on Mutt Lange’s FM192. Our modification turns the 96i/o into a very expensive sounding box that will give you lush sounding tracks that stack easily and sound incredible!

The Black Lion Audio PM8 Summing Box is now available!
It features 8 channels of transformer-coupled inputs, and three separate master outputs: a passive out, a transformer-less out, and a transformer coupled output. It has volume and pan on each channel, plus a DB25 connection to link a second summing box. Huge ¾ watt bus resistors provide isolation between channels while minimizing the thermal noise typically found in a small-format console bus. Grain oriented silicon steel input and output transformers lend a rich coloration to the sound by adding just a touch of low-order distortion below 250hz. It’s just like having a prized vintage console but at a fraction of the price!

Maroon 5's new single, "Misery," from their upcoming album "Hands All Over" (produced by Mutt Lange and mixed by Mike Shipley using our acclaimed FM 192) has just been released on June 23rd!
Check out the song on Facebook, Myspace, and iTunes, and compare it to their previously recorded material; the FM 192 sounds absolutely amazing, even at low res!
The April 2010 issue of Mix Magazine contains an absolutely stellar review by Grammy Award-winner Erik Zobler of our very own FM 192! They even have us listed right on the front cover.... (pretty cool!!) Be sure to check it out!
We are proud to announce the arrival of our new Audio Precision SYS-2722. Audio Precision is an industry leader in audio testing technology, and we're happy to employ their flagship system for testing and development here at Black Lion Audio.
David Bazan's long-awaited new album, entitled "Curse Your Branches," was recorded with his own Black Lion modded 002R and Auteur micpre, and mastered using a Lavry Blue clocked by T.W. Walsh's Micro Clock mk2! Rave reviews of this "expensive-sounding" production have been cited in the Chicago Reader and the Los Angeles Times.
(And even by the music snobs here at BLA, "....This album's great!!")
Steve Winwood is now using our Micro Clock mk2 in concert! You'll be able to hear it on the European leg of his current tour.
The Donnas have finished recording their new album using our very own Auteur Preamp! There's no question that these gals rock, and fans should be prepared for some shredding tunes recorded with unique clarity, definition and... well, balls!
