The ProjectMix I/O is MAudio’s console interface, and can be used with Pro Tools M-Powered. Sort of a little brother to the 002/003 consoles, it features midi-controlled faders, eight mic preamps, and word clock input and output. Outputs are limited in comparison to the 002 and 003 console. A/D conversion is handled by AKM’s AK5381, while D/A consists of a single AKM AK4358. Analog signal is handled by NJM5532 opamps for the mic preamp section, and NJM4580 opamps for the output. BridgeCo’s all-in-one firewire layer translates the digital audio signal to and from ADAT, SPDIF, or firewire, and also handles data and clock management duties.
There are several aspects to the ProjectMix I/O that we wanted to improve upon. The first aspect is, of course, the analog stages and microphone preamps. We are able to install the same high quality preamps and analog stages in the ProjectMix that we offer in our 002 and 003 modifications.
The next aspect is to approach converter performance. By altering the ProjectMix’s converter circuitry with the same proprietary approaches that we use in our high-end 002 and 003 modifications, we can minimize high frequency resonance and maximize the converter’s full-scale performance capability.
The final aspect of our approach is clock generation. Internal clocking is generated by a single 49.152mHz crystal, which is then divided down to provide the necessary word and bit-rate clocks. Although we found that we could improve conversion quality by improving the internal clock, we found that conversion quality was enhanced even more when clock generation and division were handled externally using our Micro Clock. Because of this, we’ve bundled the Micro Clock into the ProjectMix modification, and at a price that’s just too good to pass up.
ProjectMix I/O modification, all analog stages and mic preamps plus Micro Clock: $475.00
