Its design inspired by a legendary vintage American console mic preamp, the API 312A, the B12A Quad four channel microphone preamplifier packs a massive punch. With its transformer-coupled input and output stages and 70dB of gain on tap, the B12A Quad serves up heaping portions of low-noise headroom. Now you’ll finally be able to use your low-output ribbon mics on quiet sources! The B12A Quad imparts a bold sonic assertiveness that beefs up any signal you pass through it.
The B12A Quad is a 4-channel version of the legendary single-channel B12A Mk2. More than just another 312A clone, the B12A Quad combines vintage-inspired sonics and modern features in a rugged 1RU chassis with a smart feature set that will satisfy the most demanding audio engineers. A revised gain stage and lower noise floor deliver cleaner sound with lower distortion, while CineMag input and output transformers keep things warm, creamy, and beefy. Two front-panel DIs impart harmonic richness to guitars, basses, and synths, while stepped input gain and variable output attenuation give you exacting control over transformer saturation. Per-channel metering displays how hot your output signal is hitting the parallel TRS/XLR outputs, while an external power supply keeps noise out of your tracks.

Eighteen’s preamplifier circuit isn’t just another clone, but an original design built to pay proper tribute to some of the most classic designs ever made. The Eighteen starts with a Cinemag input transformer, but that’s far from where the magic stops. In order to get the absolute perfect sound we were looking to achieve with Eighteen meant a bit more work under the hood. This is where our new BLA1831 custom, discrete op-amp comes into play. Through an extensive period of component matching, we were able to create a custom op-amp that matched the vibe we were aiming for, while still matching a noise floor that is akin to modern equipment. The preamplifier also features polarity inverse, 48V phantom power, an 80Hz high-pass filter, and a 10kHz low-pass filter.
Meet the Black Lion Audio B12A mkIII — the most portable 312A American-sound around! The B12A mkIII uses the same Cinemag input and output transformers as our B12A Quad for a whopping 70dB of gain. A front panel D.I. delivers a harmonically rich tone to guitars, keyboards, and synthesizers, and stepped input gain allow for perfect recall.
The Auteur Quad is the four channel microphone preamplifier version rack mount of our ever popular Auteur MK2 mic pre. The Auteur has become a studio staple over the last decade and is know for its fast, transparent IC based front end while also providing a fat, colorful back end via edcor transformers. This mixture of vintage and modern design approaches has led the Auteur to be known as the “Swiss army knife of preamps” that sounds great on everything. It especially shines on sources that require detail but also benefit from some thickness such as drums or vocals. Some of the major additions to the Quad over the 2 channel half rack unit would be the all new meters on all four channels as well as borrowing the loved DI circuit from our 500 series Auteur on the first 2 channels. This feature set as well as channel count gives you one of the most affordable preamps in the world at an unbelievable price
The Auteur has been a staple preamp in studios around the world for many years.
